On this tutorial, we will show how to connect the emergency safety push button to your Kohler engine. This tutorial applies only for chipper units that have any of the following engines: Kohler/Rehlko CH270 / CH395 / CH440.

For this tutorial, we will need:
A safety button assembly box
a quick-splice (blue) terminal connector
a Phillips-type screwdriver
Pliers
A voltage meter with a continuity test (beep). not shown
STEP 1

Loosen the corner screws from the top of the button box and remove cover.
STEP 2

Remove the bag with anchor screws (2 screws with washers and a hex nut included)
Keep the top cover open.
STEP 3

Position the box so that the cable is facing the engine. Align anchor screws at each corner of the box and insert.
STEP 4

With the help of the screwdriver from the top, assemble the anchor screw with washers and a hex nut. Tighten gently. Recommended: Apply a touch of Loctite thread locker to help the assembly stay in place long term.
STEP 5

On the engine, locate the green cable and detach it from the connecting terminal.
Also remove the top screw holding the voltage regulator (the metallic cube seen in the picture).
STEP 6

Insert the cable that has the eye-terminal coming from the emergency push button and assemble along with the voltage regulator. Put the assembly back in place as shown in the picture.
STEP 7
Insert the quick splice connector into the green wire first. Make sure to position the terminal as shown in the picture, with the blue extension cover(held by the hand) on the left side

STEP 8
Insert the red wire coming from the emergency push button and align. MAKE SURE THAT THE CABLE TOUCHES THE END CAP INSIDE THE GROOVE (cable will not pass through), so that when the splicer is pressed down, it actually touches both cables.

STEP 9
With the pliers, press firmly on the splicer until it fully goes down.

STEP 10
To check that the wiring has been set properly.
Press the emergency push button in the machine. Keep the button pressed down.
Grab a voltmeter, set it to continuity test (preferably with a beep), and insert each prong into the green terminal and the screw holding the voltage regulator, as shown in the picture below.
With the emergency push button pressed down, the voltmeter must "beep" or show there is continuity in the connection.

STEP 11
Connect the prongs of the green cable.

STEP 12
Secure the cable assembly with a strap or zip tie.
This concludes our tutorial in how to connect a safety emergency push button assembly to your Yardbeast 3514 wood chipper.
