This guide gives you an idea of how to remove the chipper from the metal crate (with minimum tools). Please bear in mind this is a 1,000+ lb machine and that you should be able to have the means to remove -and assemble- the chipper from the metal crate. In the past, these chippers were shipped on top of a plywood pallet, but the wooden pallet would usually suffer a beating through the freight terminals and would constantly damage parts. So we made our shipping crate stronger.
Tools needed
9/16" Hex Wrench or cup socket
5/8" Hex Wrench or cup socket
11/16" Hex Wrench or Cup Socket
13/16" Hex Wrench or Cup Socket
Pieces of 2x4 wood blocks
Piece of Cardboard
Car Jack lift
Remove the Top Metal Crate and components
Please unpack the chipper and remove the top metal cage by loosening the bolts affixed at the bottom of each leg.
Remove all components from the chipper
At this point, only the chipper itself is on top of the crate.
2. Remove the front anchor bolts (Picture Below)
Tool needed: 9/16" Hex wrench or cup socket
3. Place a piece of cardboard beneath the license plate holder.
4. Slowly lift the chipper from the front. The chipper will lean towards the back.
5. Assemble the tow bar onto the chipper.
The tow bar is secured by 8pcs of 7/16" x 1-1/2" with its fastener kit. Bolts and fasteners come packaged in a small cardboard box.
The trailer jack knob can be found inside the plastic toolbox on the back of the chipper.
Tools needed:
5/8" Hex wrench or cup socket for the bolt head
11/16" Hex wrench or cup socket for hex nut
6. Before bringing the chipper back to floor level, make sure to position the trailer jack in the upright position.
7. Position the car jack on the right side of the chipper at the corner zone of the inside of the trailer. If needed place a 2x4 wood block to make sure there is enough clearance to slide the wheel in the hub.
Tools needed: Car Jack lift and some pieces of wood
8. Slide the wheel into the hub, and align the wheel rim with the hub spikes.
**The lug nuts are shipped tightened on the wheel hub, make sure to remove them before placing the wheel**
Tighten the lug nuts of the wheel by hand, and then apply a dab of load to the lug nuts, do not fully tighten yet as the wheel will spin and risk missing the jack support and banking the chipper forward.
Tools needed: 13/16" Hex Wrench or Cup Socket
9. Still on the right side, bring the metal crate close to the wheel -as shown in the picture-
10. Bring the car jack to the left side and repeat the same process as outlined in Step 8.
Tools needed: Car Jack and some pieces of wood
11. Go back to the right side of the trailer and lift the wheel, make sure to put enough wood support blocks to lift the wheel at a height that allows to slide the metal crate below the wheel.
12. Assemble the rear trailer jack on the trailer, and lift the chipper. Make sure to utilize a few wood blocks to allow enough clearance to slide the crate below the wheel and remove the crate completely from the chipper.
End of the Tutorial.
